2016 Lakeside Street Guitar Showcase dates:

The Lakeside Street Classical Guitar Showcase events continue into 2016! To avoid conflicts with other standing bookings at Lakeside, we unfortunately won't have the same, consistent, every-other-week rhythm all year that we've enjoyed in the past, but they're still on Friday and we still have two of them most months. We've learned through experience that competing with another event in the other room doesn't work well for either event, so please note the following dates and mark your calendars! Please "like" our public Facebook page, watch this space for future updates, and sign up for our mailing list.

About the Classical Guitar Showcase:
The Madison Classical Guitar Society (MCGS) hosts a night of member performances "open mic style" on select Fridays. These events give our members a chance to get some practice playing some beautiful music in public, and gives the community a chance to hear some truly great performances. Lakeside Street has great selection of beer, wine, food. This is NOT your normal open mic! There is so much talent at these shows! The performers start at 7.

Make Music Madison - June 21st

"Make Music Madison" is a city-wide, day-long solstice celebration of music. Hundreds of public locations and private businesses throughout the city will host live musicians all day long. MCGS participated last year and it was some great exposure.

We're back again this year and have SEVEN time slots confirmed at seven different registered locations around the city throughout the entire day. This is a fantastic opportunity to get this music we love in front of a LOT of new people. Let me know if you'd like to play or help out with the logistics. You don't need to commit to all the locations - you don't even need to stay the entire session if you don't want to, but if you're able to come out and play a bit at a couple spots, please let me know ASAP.

9-10 - Hilldale Shopping Center
10:30-11:30 - The Kitchen Gallery (107 King St.)
12:30-1:30 - Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMOCA)
2:30-3:30 - Collectivo Coffee on Monroe St.
3:30-6:30 - Dane County Regional Airport
7:00-9:00 - The Wise at HotelRED (Tom)
8:00-9:00 - Luigi's Pizzeria (Steve W)

Lots of our members are also participating as independent acts:
Steve Waugh and his daughter Molly as "Molly and Dad"

Miles and Gabor as "Red and Black"

Helen Avakian and Dave Irwin:

Mary Cashwell Strait:

Jeff Larson:

And Dory Lightfoot will be putting on a performance art piece against the cultural zeitgeist that devalues music and musicians.

Please let me know if I missed anyone. It should be a great Sunday all over town!

In other news, I'll be hosting the next Casual Club on June 19th at 6:30. More on this later.
The next organizational meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 13th at Paragon at 8:30.
Please mark your calendars!

Thanks, as always, for your support!

All the best,

Location: 7861 Twinflower Drive, Madison, WI 53719, USA

Tom Nauman will be hosting the next session of the Casual Club at his home on Friday, May 8th starting at 7:00p. BYOB BYOG

These will be a series of privately hosted (non-public) events aimed at playing guitar together. We'd like to give those who are maybe a little nervous or don't feel that they're quite ready for the public spotlight a chance to work through some pieces (or parts of pieces) and to get advice and support from the group. That said, we can make these casual, members-only events anything we want them to be. Want to sight-read some quartets? We can have a night for that. Want some pointers on what to look for when you're shopping for a guitar? We can do that to. The point is that we'd like these to be about our members and making music and talking shop in a welcoming environment.

Please put this on your calendar and help us get people out for this one. True masters at work. There will be an open reception for members and anyone interested in the MCGS preceding the concert starting around 4:00. Stop by early! If you'd like a little taste before the big show, they'll be taking part in our Guitar Showcase at Lakeside St Coffee House the night before on April 3rd as part of an open and free-to-attend masterclass! The normal volunteer performers are welcome as always, but those interested will have the option for some feedback and guidance from our guest artists. Whether you're a participating player or not, these exchanges are always a fascinating glimpse inside the artist's craft.
